The Gay science....book one

There is an enormous amount of subjects covered in this book, but the two that struck me most are Nietzsche's discussion on Love(14), and slavery(13).
Nietzsche's discussion of love is one that is definitely one sided. The word love is so ambiguous in the English language when you think about how the Greek had four different words that described love, and the Hebrews had three. Nietzsche's depiction of love only covers a kind of romantic love, but even this limited depiction does not adequately depict it. He claims that love in this sense is merely a selfish act, but this is not real love at all. The desire of a man to dominate a woman both mentally and physically is not love at all, I would claim that is perverted love, even lust. Love is a selfless desire in the best interest of another, which is not what Nietzsche describes.
The next section that interested me is the one concerning "ancient pride." Nietzsche's depiction of slavery and how the Greek philosophers believed the majority of men were actually slaves. Nietzsche kinda of implies that the philosophers of Greece believed that they themselves were not slaves, but i believe differently. I think that philosophers are just as enslaved, if not more enslaved then the average person. For although the philosophers have a understanding of their desires, and the normal things that subjugate men to slavery, it is the questions that drive the philosopher that enslaves philosophers. The questions that motivate philosophers to write books and books answering the questions that keep them up at night. The question I pose, is once these philosophers answer these questions, are they really satisfied with the answers? I believe not, the questions continue to nag and irritate them them, which enslaves the philosopher to write more. I mean, have you ever heard of a philosopher retiring? I believe not!!!
