Book Five. . .
Nietzsche lived from 1844 till 1900. Back then times were different than they were today. Literature, fashion, music, art, architecture, and technology were all different and growing in the nineteenth century. Back then people's beliefs and ways of life were unlike the beliefs and ways of life that we know today. I believe that is why I do not agree or perhaps do not understand everything that Nietzsche is saying. Like in section 363, How each sex has its own prejudice about love. I agree with Nietzsche that male and female do have a different perception of love, however it is not how he claims it is. First off, I don't know one woman that wants to be possessed. Nietzsche states that: "Woman wants to be taken, adopted as a possession, wants to be absorbed in the concept 'possession', 'possessed'; consequently, she wants someone who takes, who does not himself give or give himself away; who on the contrary is supposed precisely to be made richer in 'himself' - through the increase in strength, happiness, and faith give him by the woman who gives herself." (p.228) That is not love at all. At least that is not how I see love or how I am with love. I do not want to be possessed. I am my own person and individual and will do what I want. I will not be controlled or possessed by any man. Things are different today and are not the same as they were with gender roles back then. Women today have more of a say in relationships and more equality.
