Book One. . .

There were three sections in Book One of Nietzsche's The Gay Science. The first one is What is Life? (26) Nietzsche states that it is "continually shedding something that wants to die." Who or what wants to die? I do not agree with Nietzsche's definition of life. I'm not exactly sure what my definition of life is, but it would close to something like this: the existence of one that can grow, reproduce, adapt to others and environments. It is something that many of us take advantage of and do not realize how fragile life really is.
Another section that caught me was Work and Boredom (42). Many people search for work "for the sake of wages." They want a high paying job where they don't have to do much at all, however, now that has changed. "They are choosy, hard to please, and have no use for ample rewards if the work is not itself the reward of rewards." People need to stop being so picky and be thankful for what they have. Today people are now looking for any type of job offer that they can find. It is hard to find a job these days with the economy being so low. Get a job that you like doing, rather than basing it off the pay wage. If you like your job, then you won't get bored.
Lastly, Nietzsche's last section The desire for suffering (56). Just by reading the title of this section made me question : Who wants to suffer? Who has a desire to suffer? It is similar to the first section about life and who wants to die? Nietzsche states that "This young world demands that not happiness, but unhappiness should approach or become visible from outside..." Who wants to be unhappy?
So far, The Gay Science: Book One has made me question what Nietzsche has written and how he has defined many things.
