points of view
The natural progression, selection, and succession of favorable traits may not be random. If we are fabrications of nature to begin with, why would nature so kindly endow us with the ability to adapt and pass along favorable traits? If variability was random, evolution would not appear to be taking place. It does though. Darwin claims that “from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows.” (Darwin 307) This theory may suffice in explaining how evolution is happening, but why it is happening is a completely different question. Darwin admits this in his speculative verbiage and admittance that his theory has holes. It is impossible for us to know at this point whether we ever will know the answer to this question of why? We can however pursue it and in doing so may uncover more aspects of reality that we once couldn’t have conceived.
