yogi

"No doubt, when we embrace in our view human labor as a whole, whether theoretical or practical, we must regard our study of nature as intended to furnish us with the true rational basis for acting upon nature (Comte 38)." Current knowledge it seems, can be reduced to a tool by which we control, to a degree, the things around us. Comte continues by adding, “Our direct natural power of acting upon our environment is extremely feeble and wholly disproportioned to our needs (Comte 38)” which seems to imply that our attempt to apply knowledge into reality is, for the most part, unaffective and misguided. Even though this may be the case in our current times, it may not be the case in the future. “Knowledge is power – we must never forget that the sciences have a yet higher and more direct destination, that of satisfying the craving of our minds to know the laws of phenomena (Comte 39).” This is the truth, just look at the progression of technology over the past 100 years. The car, the television, the computer, the internet, radio, cd’s, lava lamps: all of these things are the result of applied knowledge and have helped us live our lives more convienently which in turn has opened up more time for each of us to focus more specefically on individual and collective understanding and application. Hopefully, we will make it to the point that eventually we will be able to apply our knowledge in other parts of the universe as to gain more and more of the stuff that is supposed to answer the question “What is this universe?”
