Cause and effect. The fundamental understanding. The existence of which we attempt to systematically identify, reproduce, and understand because of the fact that we seem to think an objective connection exists between the two. And maybe it does. Maybe patterns, connections, and order exist within our universe to a degree in which we couldn’t possibly fathom. But maybe not. How then do you explain the consistency in systems such as the Pythagorean Theorem, or when using numbers to predict eclipses or boiling water at 212 degrees? You can’t deny in those circumstances that cause equals effect. Where did the equal come from though? Is it just my attempt to claim stake over an objective, universal law in which I egoistically call my own? That power and ownership that we all seem to crave may be the root of our insistence in the existence of equality. Maybe we crave it because it is there. Maybe we crave it in disillusion. Probably both and probably neither. No matter how you look at it though, there is power in understanding cause and effect. Whether they are truly connected in an objective truth that means anything is obviously a frustrating thing to deal with. But just like anything else, it is only frustrating because a majority of us still suck at it. Practice makes almost perfect and what we do now in terms of working to understand everything around us may be the savior of humanity in the future. With that idea in mind it is fundamental to contribute to the greater cause so that everything humanity has worked for is not in vain.
